Norton VR880 Sprint Special![]() British Chopper has featured all kinds of custom British motorcycles over the years, but this featured motorcycle represents the origins of the custom Brit movement. Triumphs, Nortons, and BSAs were tweaked, tuned and stripped in order to push the bikes ever faster. Cafe racers are the soul of our movement. Kenny Dreer knows this. He is the man that resurrected the Norton Motorcycle brand from the ashes, and who, in 2007, is building 100 brand new Nortons for the first time in 30 years. He has been restoring, rebuilding and tuning vintage British motorcycles for 15 years, and in that time he created the Norton VR880 Sprint Special. Kenny Dreer wrote this personal note about this bike: "The second series of VR880's were very much refined, but still remember that each one was slightly different than its brother, and that in the end that all VR880's were highly modified, OEM Norton Commando's from the 70's. The last models made a true 67-70 HP at the rear wheel (we dyno'd more than several OEM Nortons on the same dyno and never saw 50 HP). Mark Hoyer from Cycle World said it best when he was here: 'it feels just like my Norton, only on hypersteroids' These bikes were all hand built; there was never a production line, although we did our best to do 4 month, which was far tougher than it seems. I would think that this bike is probably one of the best examples of that breed."
